Hi WSA Competitors!

Welcome to the 2024/25 Salt Life WSA Championship Event # 8 presented by Got Milk! This weekend’s event will be held at Oceanside Harbor South Jetty.

All heat times are shown above the heat. Please check your heat time carefully so that you do not miss your heat.

We will have Hollandia Dairy white and chocolate milk on the beach this event. Salt Life will be hosting another beach clean-up on Sunday with 4Ocean with the prize of a new Chemistry surfboard. Details will be on the beach on Sunday. We will be serving Kodiak Cakes pancakes and hot dogs both day.

Paid parking is available at the beach and the parking kiosk takes credit cards. Free parking is located east of the railroad tracks opposite of the Crab Shack Restaurant.

Head Judges Notes - Oceanside Harbor, South Jetty - March 15-16, 2025

Looks like the storm will pass and leave us with some decent surf this weekend. The wind will be in the single digit range Saturday/Sunday. The surf should be over head+ and fair shape both days.

Shortboard criteria:

Judging will be focused on the  surfers who can find and execute quality combinations. Some heats may have more opportunities than others. We will also be rewarding single MAJOR powerful and progressive maneuvers if performed in the most critical of sections. As always, we are looking for clean execution with, speed, power and good timing/flow between these moments. These will be the comparison points.

Longboard criteria:

The Surfer must perform controlled maneuvers in the critical section of the wave utilizing the entire board and wave  using traditional longboard surfing. The surfer who performs this to the highest degree of difficulty with the most style flow, and grace will receive the highest score for a ride.

Key elements for judges to consider: Nose riding in the critical section of the wave, variety of maneuvers, speed and power, control, commitment, control and foot work!

Push-In and Adaptive Divisions criteria - please view page 5 of the WSA Rulebook “Fundamental Surfing"

Please remember for maneuvers to be deemed complete, the surfer must show control and ride out  infront of the white wash. Any loss of control will hinder the score of that ride.

See you on the beach!

Schedule & Heat Draws are posted HERE

Hi WSA Surfers!

We have a big weekend ahead with our annual Salt Life Midget Smith Memorial Pier Rat Challenge which will be at T-Street San Clemente. This is event number 5 in our Championship Series.

The schedule and heat draws are attached or can be downloaded HERE.

This is also our 17th Annual Toys For Tots collection event. Please bring a nice, unwrapped, new toy for a deserving child who may not get much this Christmas. Marines from Camp Pendleton will be on hand to collect the presents. You can also make a cash or check donation. Everyone who donates will get a Rick Erkeneff designed long sleeve t-shirt printed by Inkwright LLC. This years’ shirt is a throwback to the 60’s hot rod era with a “Pier Rat Fink" inspired design.

WSA Head Judge, Pat Downey, has this to say about this weekends conditions and what the judges will be looking for:
The judging criteria for this weekends event is as follows:

Good Morning Athletes  -

It will be fairly small this weekend. The surf looks to be in the 2-3ft range both days. Even though it’s small, there are still some opportunities out there this weekend.

This weekend we will be looking for the surfers who can execute quality maneuvers in the pockets of energy and critical sections. Those surfers that can combine these quality moments with speed, power, flow, and variety of maneuvers, will receive the higher scores.

For maneuvers to be deemed complete, the surfer must show control and ride out in front of the white wash. Any loss of control will hinder scoring. Also, please be mindful of crushing sections on surfers.

Good luck to all athletes this weekend. 🍀

We are also stoked to have former USA Surf Team Coach, Pipe Masters Winner, Pastor and Author, Joey Buran “The California Kid”, signing copies of his new book “Beyond The Dream” from 10:00 to 1:00 on Saturday.  Come and chat with Joey and get an autographed copy of his book. Make a great Christmas gift and it is an honest uplifting read.

Also, former WSA surfer, USA Surf Team member, QS Standout and Fire Fighter, Kevin Schulz will be on hand Saturday morning selling raffle tickets to support the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association - Fallen Fire Fighters Relief Fund to help the local fire fighters that were injured in the horrific roll-over accident returning from fighting the Airport Fire in Trabuco Canyon.  There are several great surfboards as raffle prizes.

The City of San Clemente requests that we don’t serve breakfast out of deference to the local small business at T-Street, West Toast Cafe. West Toast has generously agreed to grant a 10% discount to our competitors and families this weekend. They have great food and drinks, reasonably priced with the best view in town, without having to leave the beach. Check them out at WestToastCafe.com

We will have Got Milk? providing regular and chocolate milk from Hollandia Dairy. Also Gogo SqueeZ will have their apple sauce pouches on hand and, of course, Sticky Bumps will be providing wax.

See you at T-Street!

Hello WSA Surfers,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 SaltLife WSA Championship Tour presented by Got Milk? We have our season opener this weekend at San Onofre Trail 6.

We have a lot of new competitors joining this year -- welcome! Please be sure to check the schedule and heats to confirm you have been seated in your proper division. It is easiest to view these on a computer. If you are returning and are in the same division as last season, your points from last year are used to seed you into heats. If you are new or moved up in age division, you are in alphabetical order below seeded surfers.

We will have pancakes and hot dogs at the beach for surfers. We will also have a limited supply of water bottles. State beach parking for the event is $15 per day unless you have a California State Parks pass. It takes awhile to drive from the park entrance to trail six at the posted speed limit and you will also have to park at the top of the trail and walk down to the beach. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make your heats. If you are not checked in by the 5 minute mark, you may be replaced. If you miss your heat, you will not be automatically entered into another heat. You will instead go to the bottom of the alternate list. No refunds will be provided.

Please take some time to review the 2024/2025 Rulebook paying special attention to the Sportsmanship Clause on pg.12 and Heat Preparation Sections on pg. 9.

We have also received an update from USA Surfing about qualification into USA Championships. In order to qualify to surf in the 2025 USA Surfing Championships, surfers must qualify via a regional organization (WSA, NSSA, ESA, TGSA, HSA) to earn an invitation. There are also changes to Prime Qualification for the 25/26 Season and Qualification for 2025 USA Surfing Championships for WSA outlined in the WSA Rulebook. There will no longer be open/uninvited registration into USA Champs, with the exception of Open Division SUP/SUP Surf/Prone Paddle, and Open Division Longboard.

See you at San O!
