Welcome to the 2023/24 Salt Life WSA Championship Event # 9 presented by Got Milk! This weekend’s event will be held at Salt Creek Beach Park in Dana Point.

In order to accommodate all of the entrants at this event, a few divisions have higher-ranked surfers seeded into Round 2. Lower-ranked surfers will start in Round 1. If you would like to beach enter, you can enter into round 1 heats only. There will be no alternates in Round 2.

All heat times are shown above the heat. Please check your heat time carefully so that you do not miss your heat.

Since this is a full event and we have limited opening, please see Mia on the beach if you would like to register for an extra division. No late entries will be accepted via email.

Out of respect for local beach concessionaire, Young’s Beach Shack, we will not be serving food at this event. Young’s will be offering our competitors and their families 10% off for the weekend (excluding alcoholic beverages). Just pick up the discount card at the beach marshal.  We will have plenty of Sticky Bumps Surf Wax on hand for competitors. Also, Salt Life will have discount coupons available at the beach marshal.

Paid parking is available at  the parking kiosk which takes credit cards. Free parking is located at Strands Beach and up on Niguel Road East of PCH.

WSA announcer and shirt designer, Rick Erkeneff, continues to recover from his aneurysm, but he has a lot of work ahead of him to get back to work and surfing. If you feel inclined, please give to his GoFundMe account. The banners and well wishes were much appreciated.

In order to accommodate all of the entrants at this event, a few divisions have higher-ranked surfers seeded into Round 2. Lower-ranked surfers will start in Round 1. If you would like to beach enter, you can enter into round 1 heats only. There will be no alternates in Round 2.

We will have GoGo SqueeZ with some new tropical fruit flavors in larger pouches on the beach this weekend. Salt Life will have new discount offers at the Beach Marshal. We will be serving pancakes and hot dogs both day.

Paid parking is available at the beach and the parking kiosk takes credit cards. Free parking is located east of the railroad tracks opposite of the Crab Shack Restaurant.

We will be taking a picture with a banner wishing WSA announcer and shirt designer, Rick Erkeneff, a speedy recovery from his aneurysm and medically induced coma. Please wear your favorite Rick Erkeneff designed WSA shirt in support. He has designed them all for the last decade.

Welcome to the 2023/23 Salt Life WSA Championship Event # 5 presented by Got Milk! This weekend’s Midget Smith Memorial Pier Rat Challenge will be held at T-Street Beach in San Clemente. This is also our 16th Annual Toys for Tots Drive. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy or cash donation. As a “thank you,” all donors will receive a Rick ORay-designed long sleeve t shirt.

We are not permitted to provide food at this event. Instead, West Toast Cafe is offering competitors a 15% discount on food. Pick up a discount card from the beach marshal.

Free and paid street parking is available at the beach. If you park in a paid spot, you will need to use the “Passport” app to pay. Check out nearby street signs for more info.

This is a very full event. If you would like to surf in an additional division, please be on the beach at 6am to see Mia and sign up. We will not be taking any entries via email.
Please note that Saturday is a 6:30am start and Sunday, a 6:45am start. We have a couple of divisions that will surf early rounds on Saturday and finals at 6:45am on Sunday (GU14 LB & BU14 LB)
Be sure to double-check your heat time. Your heat time is always listed above your heat. If you miss your heat, you will not get back in; you will be added as a standby alternate. Unfortunately, no refunds for missed heats will be provided.

Welcome to the 2023-2024 SaltLife WSA Championship Tour presented by Got Milk? We have our season opener this weekend at San Onofre Trail 6.

We have a lot of new competitors joining this year -- welcome! Please be sure to check the schedule and heats to confirm you have been seated in your proper division. It is easiest to view these on a computer. If you are returning and are in the same division as last season, your points from last year are used to seed you into heats. If you are new or moved up in age division, you are in alphabetical order below seeded surfers.

We will have pancakes and hot dogs at the beach for surfers. We will also have a limited supply of water bottles. State beach parking for the event is $15 per day unless you have a California State Parks pass. It takes awhile to drive from the park entrance to trail six at the posted speed limit and you will also have to park at the top of the trail and walk down to the beach. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make your heats. If you are not checked in by the 5 minute mark, you may be replaced. If you miss your heat, you will not be automatically entered into another heat. You will instead go to the bottom of the alternate list. No refunds will be provided.

We have also received an update from USA Surfing about qualification into USA Championships. In order to qualify to surf in the 2024 USA Surfing Championships, surfers must qualify via a regional organization (WSA, NSSA, ESA, TGSA, HSA) to earn an invitation. There will no longer be open/uninvited registration into USA Champs, with the exception of Open Division SUP/SUP Surf/Prone Paddle, and Open Division Longboard. All finals will be run at Lowers for 2024. Please see the message linked here from USA Surfing for more details.
