You always see a lot of this going on at every surf event. It’s actually pretty comical to watch. This weekend at Huntington Beach WSA was no exception. It’s fine to TRY to coach your kids from the beach, but make sure you are being a parent first and a coach second. We encourage parents to praise their kids for their effort and never demean or criticize no matter how frustrating it can be. I guarantee that is the quickest way to destroy their joy of surfing and competing, and worst, your relationship with your child. We make all parents read and sign our parental code of conduct each season, but it’s a good idea to re-read it now and again.
