#thankfulthursday we are thankful for Lewis Earl "Hoppy" Swarts. Founder of the United States Surfing Association in 1961 which changed name to Western Surfing Association in 1967. He devised the competition scoring still used today. He died June 9, 1988, of a stroke on his way to the WSA Santa Cruz. It is a crime he is not in the Surfing Hall of Fame.
